Tofton does the trick for Cleethorpes Town

Wednesday, October 28, 2009, 06:30

CLEETHORPES Town beat Boston Town Reserves 8-0 in the Lincolnshire League.

The victims of a similar scoreline on the opening day of the season, Clee Town's improvement in fortunes continued with their first league win of the season.

Matthew Tofton opened the scoring from close range after a cross from the left by Lawless.

Debutant Scott Paton added a second after being put through by Bell, and Tofton made it 3-0.

Boston were reduced to 10 men for the last 15 minutes of the half through injury, as their substitutes had not arrived.

While they had the man advantage, Tofton completed his hat-trick to make the score at the interval 4-0.

The visitors were back to full-strength for the second half, but there was nothing they could do to stop Ryan Newton heading home the fifth and sixth goals.

Daniel Trott rounded the keeper, after being put through by Hutchinson, and netted to make it 7-0.

Hutchinson completed the rout when he turned home Tofton's cross from the left.

Twice champions CGB Humbertherm clinched a point with a 2-2 draw at home to local rivals Louth United.

Bales gave the visitors the lead in the 12th minute when Therm failed to clear a corner.

The home side drew level with a delightful Gary Cross chip from 25 yards.

Louth were awarded a penalty 10 minutes after the interval and Dan Pawson stepped forward to restore the lead from the spot.

Mike Humberstone levelled again in the 80th minute when put clear by George Oliver and two minutes from the end Cross went close to clinching the three points for the Therm.

Grimsby-based side Harvest went down 3-2 away at Skellingthorpe.

Against a side sporting a 100 per cent record, Skellingthorpe couldn't have got off to a worse start.

Full-back Phil Kelsey netted in the wrong end to give the visitors the lead after just 30 seconds.

But unbeaten Skellingthorpe found Harvest keeper Ash Kiff in equally generous mood when he spilled the ball into his own net to level the scores.

Steve Mehta headed Skellingthorpe in front after half an hour and Ash McKinstry made it 3-1 just before the break.

With 10 minutes to go, Harvest pulled a goal back through Ryan Smith, but the home side hung on to claim the three points.

They are now the only side unbeaten in the Lincs League this season.

Louth Town Reserves lost 4-2 away at Lincoln Moorlands Railway Reserves.

On target for the visitors, who beat their local rivals Louth United in midweek, were Craig Gordon and Terry Ramsden.
