Tired Louth again fail to find the net

Monday, December 07, 2009, 06:30

LOUTH Town continued their indifferent Central Midlands League form with a drab 0-0 draw away at Kinsley Boys.

It was a tired performance from a Town team who failed to find the net on Saturday for the second consecutive game in the Supreme Division.

Louth began with the help of a pronounced downward slope and were able to assert pressure from the off.

Despite their territorial advantage, however, they were unable to carve out any clear-cut openings until Jamie Rowbotham was felled on the edge of the Kinsley area and Sam Smith flashed the resulting free-kick narrowly wide.

Another free-kick moments later caused panic in the home area but unfortunately no Louth player was able to get the telling touch and the chance went begging.

It was half-an-hour before Craig Wherry in the Town goal was tested for the first time but the big keeper proved equal to the task, diving full-length to fingertip a Fennel drive to safety.

Ben Davison unluckily hit a post following a scramble in the Kinsley area and Jack Cotton went for placement rather than power and was denied by the home keeper as half-time came with Louth having been unable to make their superiority count.

The first half had seen a shortage of goalmouth action but the second 45 minutes were even worse.

Although Louth looked comfortable in possession, there was a lack of spark in the final third and, although comfortable at the back, they did not look capable of breaking down a determined Kinsley rearguard.

In fact it was the home to side who had the ball in the net, only for their celebrations to be cut short by the assistant, who had spotted an offside offence during the build-up.

With time running out, Town finally created the opening which could have secured all three points.

Great work down the right by substitute Jason Callaby set up a shooting opportunity for Mark Fairburn, whose low effort defeated keeper Watson but grazed the far post and the chance of a late victory was gone.

Louth certainly view this result as two points dropped and will look to get back to winning ways on Saturday when they entertain Clipstone Welfare at Park Avenue (3pm).

Also on Saturday, Town are holding their Christmas draw in clubhouse at Park Avenue.

The draw, which has first prize of £500, will start at 8pm. Entry is free and includes buffet. Live entertainment is from local group Outside In.
