Smith and Cass are kings of Horncastle
Although the side went into their game with no fewer than nine squad changes from the previous week, Harvest gained a vital win to leave them eight points off top spot with five games in hand.
The game at Novartis started off at a slow pace with Horncastle knocking the ball around well, but it was Harvest who had the first shot on goal when midfielder Freddie Cass warmed the hands of the visiting keeper.
The game then became a scrappy affair with neither team looking like they wanted to win the game, and neither keeper making any saves of note during the first-half.
But the second-half was only eight minutes old when Harvest took the lead. A great move between Cass and Luke Marshall saw midfielder Ryan Smith break clear and smash the ball home.
Ten minutes later, Harvest increased their lead when Cass ran through a crowded goal-mouth to drive the ball home.
This forced Horncastle to come out and try to get something out of the game but to no avail.
The game petered out into a drab affair, but for Harvest it was job done despite not playing well.
Elsewhere in the Lincs League, the top two also registered 2-0 wins, with leaders Ruston Sports returning from a depleted Skegness Town with three points thanks to a goal in each half.
In Sleaford Town Reserves' trip to Heckington United Craig Gordon's brace sealed the match for second placed Town.
Under-strength Skellingthorpe ground out a valuable 2-1 win over CGB Humbertherm on a difficult surface at Fulstow.
Steve Mehta gave the visitors a 1-0 half time lead, but five minutes after the break the champions were level when Tom Avison converted a penalty.
Matthew Forbes's 85th minute free kick, his first league goal of the season, sealed the three points for the visitors.
Lincoln United Reserves had to come back from behind to beat bottom club Cleethorpes Town.
Ross Wheatley gave the home side the lead after half an hour when he fired home from the edge of the area, but Lincoln levelled before the break through Sam Orritt.
Orritt headed home his second early in the second-half and things got worse for the home side when Scott Coupland finished to make the score 3-1.
Coupland doubled his tally for the game with Lincoln's fourth.
Louth United were beaten 2-0 by Lincoln Moorlands Railway Reserves, as Joseph Hall scored a brace.
Both goals came in the second half. The first saw him sweep home a James Hulse cross and the second was again created by Hulse, who released Hall down the middle to slot past the keeper.
Looking ahead to this weekend, Harvest entertain Lincoln Moorlands Railway Reserves, while Heckington United have home advantage in their clash with bottom side Cleethorpes Town.
Sleaford Town Reserves welcome CGB Humbertherm to Eslaforde Park, Skegness Town travel to Grimsby Borough Reserves, and Louth Town Reserves and Horncastle Town cross swords at Park Avenue. Louth United and Lincoln United Reserves meet at Saltfleetby to complete the fixtures.
