I'm pleased about the Heywood capture but signing Hope leaves me wondering why we showed Fenton the door.

Did Fenton do something wrong?

Has AB allready given a reason for letting Fenners and toner go? (did i miss something).

Was it that they just don't figure in his long term plans or was there some kind of incident or comments made that forced his hand?

As far as I know he thought that Fenton wasnt in his long term plans and that Toner was no longer needed due to the improvement of Nick Heggarty recently.

Both are still at the club however and AB says that if they dont get any interest from other clubs he will welcome them back into the squad.

Toner has left now but Fenton is still at the club. we should keep hold of Fenners if possible, there is no way he alone was to blame for conceding all the goals we did at the end of last season, the whole team let their heads drop after Wimbledon and the prINCE of darkness did us over in the Mickey Mouse Mug , seriously though we apparently have signed three good defenders which I believe to be true from what I have read, but we could eek another %10 out of the performance of our defence with Fenners ready to step in and he deserves the chance to play in a solid defence, competition is healthy and not forgetting Bennett and Birdy we should be better at the back this season and should start exactly as we did last season but this time take our chances as I have never seen a town team create so many good chances, we might have been losing but nobody can deny with a good defence had we taken the chances we would have been unstoppable, but we lost this during the season, For me we still need another mid and maybe a striker although I am optimistic this year Taylor and Jarman should be given a good run as these two are very hardworking and for me thats what this league is all about, I would also like to see Till and Bore on the field at the same time a little more (also both hardworking , well Bore is a handful at least), I think Bore is a confidence player and deserves a solid run as we all know what he is capable of when his heads not in the clouds, but for me Tilly is the one, for me our best player although not sure whether he should be just behind the front two or on the wing, guess if we are going back to the 4-4-2 he is on the wing but I think he should be allowed to drift inside when we get possesion, as his passing and creativity is by far above the standard of most in this league, I think he could even do a job upfront if Heggarty and Bore where to play on the wing, it is looking a lot brighter now but we must start well, and please... please... Newey, you got a good left foot on you, so use it, don't just play the same ball fifteen times in a match, the floater over the top and down the wing, sorry but the guy gives a lot of possession away as defenders read it after the fifth time, Lets get behind the team this year guys, more noise, no negatives and we will go far if this defence works out for us, Come on you mighty Mariners...........make 08/09 a year to remember, and also as I have said before get David Ross on the Board as he seems to be taking an interest in the local area at the minute and so he should he can turn us into a Fulham, better than being a Bradford ayy Mr Ormandroyd

Fair play to AB, he's managed to get some experienced lads in on freebies and bolster the back line. So hopefully we'll stop letting them in at one end......

So now for your next trick Alan, please bring us some great lads in to bang them in at the other end!........

And a ball winner in the middle wouldn't go a miss!!

It looks like we'll be reverting to a 4-4-2 formation so i don't think theres any doubt that at some point in the campain we'll need the services of Nick Fenton so i am really pleased he's still with us.We might just see the best of him in a stronger defense. And with our new signings and the competition we now have for starting places at the back it should spur the other lads on to raise their games.

I am still concerned about other area's of the team though. To win promotion we will need goals in abundance & its allready evident that our current attack minded midfielders and strikers carn't give us a high enough goal ratio to achieve that.

In an ideal world we would still be looking to sign another 4-5 new players - An experienced, quality utility man that can play a number of positions comfortably when were hurting through injuries - An experienced, quality playmaker that can play in the middle or on either wing - An experienced, quality attacking left winger with a great left foot, someone that heggerty and newey could learn a lot from - An experinced, quality 6ft+ tall scarey Targetman that knows where the goal is - And another striker, somebody similar "if not" michael boulding!

If we added all of the above to what we allready have,we might just win this damn league.

UTM!!!
