Following Boulding's "ambitious" choice of signing for Cheltenham, where and when are we going to get the striker we desperately need? Delroy Facey is also out of the picture now so are there any other names you can think of who would be an asset to our squad that is within our lack of price/wage range? Answers on a postcard please!!!

I know that we would LIKE a new striker - but is it really the be all and end all if we dont get one?

Butler showed glimpses last year of being able to knock in the goals, providing he is fit.

North improved on his first seasons total and will hopefully do so again.

Jarman and Taylor are both proving themselves to be at the very least a nuisance - which can force defenders into making costly mistakes.

Llewellyn can also play upfront - as he did last night against Gainsborough.

Not only this but Till, Bolland and Boshell also seemed to become more goal hungry as last season went on, as well as Hope looking likely to get a few from set pieces.

I would love to see a 20+ goal striker, but if we cant bring one in then I do have faith in the current players to score goals.

Yeah we still have got Butler but for how long? Is he still suffering from "bad back syndrome" from travelling? He would be a great front man for us if his heart was in it. I'm unsure of his current stance with regards to his future at BP?

And i take my hat off to the youth set-up for giving us some promising talent for the future - but that's exactly what they are at the moment - our future. We need a good old toe-end, dodgy header type poacher (ala Keith Alexander! just joking before anybody hammers me!) the missed chances that went begging last season cost us too many points and i fear the same could happen again without a killer centre forward.

i think Chris Lewellyn (apologies if spelling is wrong) is too good a wide man and is a much better asset in our midfield pulling the strings and providing ammo - he will give much needed width to stretch teams and provide another outlet.

Sorry to bleat on but i think a proven striker is essential if the Mariners want to be serious play-off (dare i say promotion) contenders.

Last season the way we started was brilliant and the amount of chances we created was many, had we been able to capitalise on them our season could have grew from there and then who knows!, but with us playing so well and losing or drawing it was decided we must revert to ugly and direct in order to grind out the wins we desperately needed to pull us clear of the bottom, we had to do something, but it should not be forgotten by the team or the manager that we can play like that and we can create and dominate, with the likes of till, hegarty and hopefully Llewellyn, even stockdale has showed signs of having an eye for a pass, and for me thats what it's all about, creativity, it's great to watch and Is generally known that if you can create the goals should come,
I would like to see us try to start that way again this year, quick short passes linking midfield and attack, always looking to get Tilly involved as I have said before I think his creativity and skill is beyond this league, I guess the question is what would be different this time, maybe the answer could be Butler, there was a change in his work ethic around mid season from when we first got him, when he looked like he was pulling a ball n chain, and what about Taylor he rarely gets a solid run in the first team but I would guess that the chances he has taken during his cameo appearences is pretty good, in my mind anyway, he is always looking to break, Northy is skillful and a good finisher but struggles to keep his form for me, yet another year wiser can only have positives on all of our young talent, then there is Jarman who for me, if he continues to show his hard working all action style, he deserves a good run, I see Taylor this way too, never gives up, North is hard working but if he could step it up another gear to the Jarman level we would see the benefits IMO.
With regards to getting another striker in, yes I believed we needed one, something different, I also beleive Till could play up there but maybe he is to important to be up there, I guess for the money we are prepared to pay we would be hard pushed to get a 20 goal striker, and even to improve on what we have, which for me is young, relatively inexperienced, yet very determined and hardworking strikers, the impotant thing for me is to create and keep the ball more this year as the one thing any of our strikers cannot do barring Jones is win the ball out of the air, if we get it up there into feet I think we will do the business this year, please no more Newey long balls, although its gotta be said he is ten times more accurate than Gallimore ever was, just needs to alternate a little more IMO, and when he botheres to get forward he shows his class, I know for a left backi t's not always easy but if we are playing 4-4-2 our wingbacks need to help out attacking, most good teams have attacking wing backs.
