Having only booked a place Wembley last night i'm already hearing "die hard" mariners moaning about the "so-called fans" turning up for the big games. I attend every home game and away games when the mrs allows it! My opinion is that we should encourage the big games fans - we've an allocation of 25,000 tickets to shift and your die hard 3000 won't even fill a stand at Wembley. They shouldn't be knocked for jumping on the bandwagon, they are going to line the pockets of the club and make sure the trip to London is a lucrative one. I'm sure some of the big games fans would love to be able to afford to come to more games but lets remember that Grimsby is a deprived area, high unemployment, low wages etc etc. Not all people can afford to take themselves/kids to the match. Don't criticise the big game fans. For some, going to London will be a huge financial burden.

How amazing were the previous two Wembley trips? 20,000 plus Grimbarians having a large one in the capital!!

I remember entering Cardiff high street for the play off final to a wall of black and white; the noise and the buzz was incredible. Even though the game was pitiful the day out was an experience not to be forgotten. So lets have Wembley Way decorated with our famous black and white lets crank the noise up and lets have a party in London!!...................

.....or should we respect the wishes of the die-hards and just send those with the stubs from 10 home game tickets, barely fill a stand, be out-sung by the Dons and generally have a miserable time and not give the club the financial boost it needs from a potential big pay day?

well said!

so long as the club are gaining from the 'glory hunters' who cares? yes it would be nice if 7000+ turned up to every home game but i don't think that'll happen at the moment as we live in an area that doesn't care about it's football team except for the big occasions. any way there are plenty of tickets to go around and probably a few more if we sell out

i've booked my hotel room already

win or lose lets sing till we drop and have a bloody good time doing it!

UTM!!!

Also remember that not all Mariners fans live in Grimsby. Many, like me, were brought up in the area but now live elsewhere. We can't possibly get to 10 home games a season, but like to turn out to show our support on the big occasions. I don't think this makes us glory hunters or bandwagon jumpers, just geographically challenged.

As a family of 4 we find it diffiult to get to all home matches ( very cost prohibitive) but will be going to Wembley instead of having a family holiday this year as we did 2 years ago when we went to Cardiff.

It is not the quantity of fans going but the quality that should be appreciated.

The fans who buy the merchandise and the tickets etc to go to the big events as well as the home games when possible are the ones who help keep the club going.

When/if the new stadium is built it will be nearly quicker for us to go to Lincoln than to watch GTFC, and that is saying something.

WIthout the extra people there will just be no atmosphere in the 90k seater stadium we are hard pressed to geta sound at some home games with a 10% capacity of Wembley.

If people are prepared to travel to London and watch the Mariners then I say good luck to them.

I agree with all the positive messages regarding band wagon fans and glory hunters, the club needs everybody now in a finacial and moral support. So why all the negativity against these fans.As said before these extra fans will make the atmosphere at Wembley and hopefully sing the Mariners onto victory, and put a few pounds into the coffers of G.T.F.C to pay some of our tax revenue.
We will all be one big crowd at Wembley, one big party, and lets hope one big celebration. So to all the die hard fans , my message is that all these extra fans will infact make your day more enjoyable at Wembley. You never know we could keep some on to support the Mariners long term.
I have just read that MK Dons have already sold out of their allocation so they to have a few band wagon fans or glory hunters.
I went to the play off finals in 98 and there was a lady in her sixties who had never been to a football match in her life on our coach, and she absolutely loved every minute of the whole experience.
So lets all sing together , and cheer them onto victory as fans together even if its the first match for some , our even if you,ve never missed a match all season, we all have one thing in common to have a great day out and see the Mariners win at Wembley.
UTM.

I think you make a very valid point, the club is desperate for any source of income, and part-time fans provide that when the team plays in a big game like this. I just hope, having seen how quicly MK Dons sold their allocation, that the die-hard fans don't miss out.

I have followed the Mariners for 14 years since moving to the area as an 8 year old. I have previously owned a season ticket, get to home matches when I can, and at last count had travelled to 20 something away grounds to see my beloved Town. Now at Durham University I can only get to home matches out of term time, and have no priveleges with regard to Wembley tickets as I have not yet finished for Easter. I consider myself a "real fan", and my concern is that some people in my situation, especially those currently living outside the Grimsby area, may be forced to miss out.

I hope everyone does jump on the bandwagon. I hope the club makes every penny it can from this opportunity. I just hope not all the tickets are taken by people who have suddenly taken an interest, having managed single-figures Grimsby matches since their last Wembley trip! And if they are? Well you'll still find me at the back of the Pontoon for every home game until my summer term begins!

i dont consider myself to be a bandwagon fan, i had season ticket from 97/98 to 02/03 but then i went to university and have become progressively more bankrupt since. i would love to go to everyhome game at blundell park like i used to be able to do, but it is a financial impossibility
The only thing i would hope is that town manage to hang on to some of the locals that make the trip to wembley- you never know when we get back up to the championship, we could have the conoco stadium and crowds that allow us to compete properly at that level.

I cant wait to walk up wembley way with Alan Buckleys black and white army

20.000 fans where are they on a saturday match day. Glory seekers the lot of them. Now take Bradford City fans,14,000 LOYAL BANTAMS turn up week in week out to watch ,having said that they do get to see a decent team who were dreadfully unlucky not to to grab all three points at Blundell park this season.

Ow do lad. Would that be same Bratfud City where t'club subsided t'season tickets so they are only £138?

Nay wonder you get 14000 turning up if they have t'be bribed to do so. Shame they have t'watch such poor performing dross. Will tickets be subsidised again next season or will you have a more realistic 5000 following?

Oh, and Shrimpers were t'nickname of t'club we beat on way t'final. Shame you're having such a poor season, isn't it?

If you really want to know, season tickets for next season are £150 and are BOGOF,so there will be around 20,000 at every home game. In fact as we have a 25,000 season stadium there will be enough room for your loyal band of supporters. I wonder how many you will bring up to us in a few weeks. The 23,000 who are going to Wembley !!!! I doubt it dont you, more like lets say 327 BANDWAGON THE LOT OF THEM !!!!!!!!!

Is that why you've only sold 2,200 for next year? And they are only BOGOF is you sell over 9,000. I understand from reading the club's website some are concerned at such a low take-up despite the offer. Still, it doesn't detract from the fact that you have to sell tickets at ridiculously low prices in order to get people to attend (or not, as the case maybe for next year).

Talking of bandwagons, before this offer how many season ticket holders did you have compared to the number you had when you were in the Premiership?

Thats not the point. Of course we had more fans in the Premiership, but what is relative now is that we are both in the same division and we get 14,000 at most league games and you get around 4,000. Surely that has to be good for the state of football especially in the lower leagues, the common man and all that. Still seriously speaking I trust you all had a good day down in the smoke >

We would love to play you every week - because surely you cannot get so lucky every week. Town played your lot off the park and if we could play you every week we'd secure promotion by December. Your boys were pitiful and only through a shocking referee and two lapses of concentration did you manage to scrape a victory. You did not win the game; we lost it.

One of the 344!!

Up the Mariners - we'll see you next year; for one year only before you slip into oblivion with the Wrexham.
