Why aren't our players good enough when it matters?| Author | Message |

The kids are brilliant ball jugglers these days. If you watch the England team in training they can all (even John Terry) trap a ball and lay off a perfect pass. So why doesn't it happen like that in matches? Why does Bridge pretend he hasn't got a right foot? Why does Sol Campbell look like a frightened rabbit when somebody gives him the ball? Why does Gerrard always thump the ball 70 yards? Why does Lampard pass the ball then stand still? Why does Ashley Cole never make a decent cross? None of these things would happen in training so why do they happen in matches? We do have the technique to match Croatia or anyone else, we don't seem to have the mental ability to use it when it counts. In other words we are soft and we don't like it when the going gets tough. |
