Bennett keen on Posh move
The 19-year-old former Grimsby Town skipper made his Posh debut from the bench in last weekend's home defeat to Barnsley.
And he admits he is starting to settle in at the Championship strugglers after his whirlwind exit from Blundell Park a fortnight ago.
Bennett said: "There was a lot of talk about it in the summer but the move came out of the blue in the last few weeks.
"Once I heard about it, though, I was keen to join.
"It's been a long time coming. To get there and play and get to know the young lads was a nice feeling.
"It is nice to get the move out of the way.
"I reported for training at Grimsby that Thursday and was told that I was going down to Peterborough – that's the first I knew really.
"There is a good management team there and it is one of the best clubs I could have joined.
"It is obviously a big step up the leagues, but a challenge I am relishing. I will do whatever is required to improve.
"Obviously everyone wants to play as high as they can and this was the next step for me.
"Hopefully we'll get something sorted and I'll sign for the long term."
Posh boss Darren Ferguson had two offers for the Mariners' captain rejected in the close season but made it third-time lucky with a loan that is expected to become permanent in January and cost the London Road side in the region of £½-million.
But Ferguson is happy to have finally secured Bennett's services.
The manager said: "I have no doubt Ryan is a good signing for the football club.
"He is a player we looked at in the summer, has good size, good potential and I am really looking forward to working with him."
Bennett is just as positive about his future at London Road and believes he has joined a club on the up.
Now the former England U18 international awaits a first start which could come on Saturday when Posh travel to the north east to face Championship leaders Newcastle United in front of a big St James' Park crowd.
Bennett, who made more than 100 senior appearances for Town, added: "It was very easy to sell the club to me.
"Peterborough have been promoted in each of the last two seasons and are on the up.
"The players are top quality and I know that we will get out of the position we find ourselves in at the minute.
"The manager has assured me of that and I believe him.
"When I signed he said he'd bought me to play me and it would be great to start some games this season.
"I'm not taking anything for granted though as I have to get used to the team's style of play first.
"I accept the manager might not want to throw me in straight away but I'm confident I won't let anyone down when my chance comes.
"Everyone would love to play at Newcastle and I'm no different. That would be a great place to make my first start but I'll just have to wait and see."
