Conlon: Players must look in mirror
Goals from Simon Whaley, Steve Williams and James Hanson gave Bradford City a deserved 3-0 win at Blundell Park in Neil Woods' first game in full-time charge.
The striker returned to the starting line-up against his former club, but couldn't inspire a turnaround in fortunes in front of goal.
The Mariners remain in the relegation zone in League Two, three points from safety after Torquay's 2-2 draw at Port Vale.
However, he says the players are backing Woods' appointment and are determined to put things right.
He said: "That result is just pure disappointment for us as players and obviously the manager in his first game in charge.
"Individually and collectively it was nowhere near as good as it should have been. As a whole we didn't perform anywhere near as good as we could have done.
"We have to look at ourselves in the mirror.
"Individually from start to finish we were second to balls all over the pitch and it just wasn't good enough.
"We have to get our heads down, and get it sorted.
"The gaffer is saying we have to look at things and get them sorted as quickly as we can.
"Everybody in the changing room backs the appointment and that is why everybody is disappointed tonight, and disappointed for the manager as well.
"The lads have a lot of respect for him and wanted him to get the job.
"There is no point in talking about relegation yet. I think it is far too early for that.
"But we need to go and get some results."
The 31 year old knows that, as one of the more experienced members of Woods' young squad, he has to stand up and be counted.
"It is a new experience for them coming into the Football League and getting bad results as well is tough.
"We need to help them out, and as an experienced player I will do my best.
"I was happy to be back in the starting line-up and had a couple of opportunities I could have done better with.
"But hopefully I can get more starts over the next few weeks and we can pick up some results."
