Danny ready to kick-start his career with Town
North was handed his full debut for his home-town club by Alan Buckley at Northampton Town almost exactly three years ago.
He went on to become Town's top scorer the following season but has since dropped to the fringes and was even told by Mike Newell he could look for another club before the ex-boss left last month.
Now he has been handed an opportunity to prove himself again under the stewardship of his former Youth mentor Neil Woods.
And a return to Sixfields seems the perfect place for the 22-year-old to kick-start his Town career.
North said: "Northampton in the FA Cup a few years ago was my first start for the senior side so I've fond memories of the place – even if it was hard that day up front on my own.
"I'm looking forward to going back there.
"It's a game we believe we can win because they are not doing great either.
"I just hope I did enough at Leeds to play again.
"I was happy to get a start because I was disappointed to miss out from the start against Bath.
"I had a talk with Woodsy after that and he told me to keep training like I had been and keep doing things right and I would get my chance.
"I had a good session on Monday and got into the starting line-up on Tuesday so was delighted with that.
"With Mike Newell's departure, I didn't know whether I was coming or going if I'm being honest.
"He'd said I could go out on loan and at first I thought it was still the same.
"I got something sorted before the Accrington game and then I was told I couldn't go out and that's what both Pete (Bore) and I have been told now.
"Woodsy has spoken to us both and told us that if we train well, we'll be in his thoughts.
"You can't ask for much more than that – he wants us around so I'm happy with that.
"Hopefully he'll get the job permanently but whoever does get appointed, I have to prove to him what I can do and that I'm worth keeping here."
North certainly wasn't short of commitment to the cause alongside his team-mates at Elland Road.
And despite the defeat, he hopes they can takes positives from the performance into tomorrow's return to league action.
North went on: "It was a shame about the result but I thought we all gave a good account of ourselves.
"We matched Leeds for work ethic in the first half and when we got the ball we kept it quite well.
"Then the own goal went in and it was a bit of a killer blow and then the second just before half-time was a sickener.
"We carried on working and after they scored again, Sweens got probably our goal of the season to get us back in it a bit.
"Overall I thought we gave a good account of ourselves.
"We need to take that confidence into the league now – we really need to crack on because if we keep getting results like we have been, it's not looking good for us."
North is determined to stay in the thoughts of caretaker boss Woods and get back playing regularly for the Mariners.
But he is also happy that other clubs were prepared to take him on loan before the turnaround in favour at Town – giving him optimism for the future whoever gets the managerial hot-seat.
He added: "Knowing clubs were coming in was good for my confidence.
"The first I knew of was a non-league club and I didn't really want to drop down so I left that.
"Then a couple of league clubs came in and I was happy to go to one of those to get games under my belt.
"Obviously that didn't happen but it's nice to know if things don't work out here in the long run, there's options of going elsewhere and staying in the league."
