Shahin: It's Jamma time
The 20-year-old made his first-team debut against Rochdale recently – more than two years after being released by the Mariners at the end of his period as a Youth trainee.
Now he has a taste for senior action and after earning a short-term contract as a professional, the local lad has the bit between his teeth to make the grade at Town.
Speaking exclusively to the Telegraph, Shahin said: "It was a big shock to get handed a start against Rochdale.
"Brian Stein (Town assistant boss) mentioned it to me before the game and I was really excited.
"Obviously I was nervous before the match but once I got a few touches on the ball, it felt good.
"I've been waiting a long time for it.
"The crowd were very good as they always are to be fair with young players.
"The aim is to stay in the side.
"We just need a couple of wins because we've definitely got the players to do better.
"Obviously, the result went against us against Rochdale but the gaffer (Mike Newell) told me afterwards that he was pleased with my debut.
"I was happy with my performance but obviously disappointed with the result."
It's been a whirlwind time for the youngster who scored the winner for Town's Youth team in the Midlands Floodlit Youth Cup final at Walsall in 2006.
Despite that success, he was allowed to leave a year later and ended up in non-league football with Yorkshire outfit Armthorpe Welfare.
But a chance conversation between his former Youth boss Neil Woods and now former Town manager Mike Newell ended with a trial back at Blundell Park, and he impressed enough to get a contract offer.
It was an unexpected development for the midfielder but one which has delighted him.
Shahin added: "It's been a crazy few weeks for me – coming back and then getting a second chance here.
"I've only got a contract until the end of the season so I'm determined to make the most of it.
"I owe a lot to Woodsy because he was the person who recommended me to Mike Newell.
"I want to be here as long as possible so I need to keep getting my head down in training and going at it.
"I've loved every second of being back at Blundell Park.
"I've been working hard and thankfully it's paid off so far.
"Hopefully I showed bits of what I can do on my debut and at Bournemouth.
"I'm buzzing at the minute."
Former boss Newell also believes the youngster has ability.
He said: "Jammal had a very good debut.
"He set people off, he played with a good tempo, he reads situations and he will make things happen."
