FULL TIME: CREWE 4-2 GRIMSBY TOWN
It could have been a lot worse as well for a Town side that missed injured centre-back Olly Lancashire badly.
In fact, had it not been for fine display by keeper Nick Colgan, Town’s already poor goal difference could have been dented even further.
Colgan made a string of fine saves before he was finally beaten by Byron Moore albeit after pushing his shot onto the post on 32 minutes.
Town responded instantly and got level when Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro fired a low drive home for his second in as many matches.
That equality last little longer, however, as Crewe got a second three minutes after that – Joel Grant slotted home unchallenged in the box.
Incredibly, it was 2-2 before half-time when Dean Sinclair was on hand again, for the third time in as many days, to slot home for the Mariners.
After the break, the home side had a plethora of chances the best on 55 minutes – a stunning 18 yard effort from Ashley Westwood arrowing into the top corner.
A late red card was shown to Crewe substitute Carl Martin for a rash challenge on Michael Leary before the game was put to be din the second added minute by Clayton Donaldson.
The defeat means Town missed the chance to gain ground on third-bottom Cheltenham and have now played a game more.
