'I'll do it my way' - manager
Woods admitted his selection as Mike Newell's replacement would split opinion on the Blundell Park terraces.
But he is determined to turn things around in his own style and cope with the big task that lies ahead for a side second-bottom of the Football League.
Woods said: "Any appointment will please some people and not sit well with others.
"All I would ask is for fans to judge the work that I do.
"You don't have to personally like me or like a player or whatever.
"It's going to take a bit of time – we know that.
"But we also know we haven't got too much time.
"I would like to think when this all settles down the talk can be about the team and not about me.
"I'm quite happy for the players and team to take the profile because that's how it should be.
"I hope people will judge the progression of the team than make any decisions on a personal basis.
"I'm not coming in cold with some outrageous statements that aren't feasibly going to happen.
"I know the players and am learning a lot more by working with them and being around them day to day.
"There are a few fundamental problems in the structure of the club and they are aspects I want to work on."
Woods plans to restructure his management team in the near future and also admits more players could arrive before Thursday's loan deadline.
He added: "The squad needs to work and if that means bringing more players in we will do.
"The attitudes of the players have been very impressive, though.
"They have worked very hard on the things we've tried to do and I think that's started to show through in some of the games.
"Their attitude to come back and do extra sessions has been spot on and they've been very open to what we've asked of them.
"They have made it easier for me but ultimately you can't overlook the position of where we are in the league.
"The short-term is obviously to turn around where the team is in the league and then build so that it doesn't go back into that position."
