It's Oliver's aim to pay back Town supporters

GRIMSBY Town defender Olly Lancashire says the players are determined to get three points from Friday's clash against Accrington Stanley at Blundell Park – to repay the impressive support the Mariners received at Dean Court against Bournemouth.

Lancashire, 21, who was signed on a one-month loan deal from Southampton last Friday before joining up with Neil Woods' team on Saturday morning, made an impressive debut.

The club contacted Southampton, who also loaned out stopper Tommy Forecast to Town earlier in the season, to fill the void in central defence brought about by Ryan Bennett's departure to Peterborough and injuries to Rob Atkinson (groin) and Matt Heywood (knee).

Despite being thrust straight into the team alongside Paul Linwood to face league leaders Bournemouth, the England Under-19 international looked confident and composed at the back but he admitted the team were disappointed not to pick up at least a point at Dean Court.

Lancashire said: "I was pleased to get out on the pitch. It's the first game I've played on a Saturday for a while.

"It was nice to be involved and I was quite happy with my own performance. But in our situation it's all about points at the moment.

"It will be great if I feature on Friday and perform in front of the home fans.

"The fans were excellent and they deserved a point – so hopefully we'll get the three points for them against Accrington."

"Alan Pardew rang me about 6pm on Friday night and told me that Grimsby were looking for a centre-half.

"I joined the boys about 11.30am in the hotel and for training before the game.

"Even though we lost, we showed positives against a Bournemouth side that are the league leaders and we have to take those into the next game and get the win."

Town caretaker boss Neil Woods said he was delighted with Lancashire's debut performance for the Mariners.

"Olly did great. With Ryan leaving, Rob Atkinson and Matt Heywood not fit, it meant we only had one centre-half fit.

"So we spoke to Olly on Friday night and he came to the hotel on Saturday morning.

"He didn't know any of the lads and I thought his performance under the circumstances was absolutely outstanding."
