Saturday, March 13, 2010, 06:30

THE top clash this week in the Roy Ling Mutual Grimsby Snooker Singles came in the Premier Section when second-placed Simon Devaney Builders A were beaten 5-3 by fourth-placed Clee Cons A.

Craig Waddingham was first on for the home team against Chris Scott and in a very close frame, in which Scott knocked in a 37, Waddingham just scraped it on the black. The next frame saw Waddingham run in a good 73 break to make it 2-0 for the Builders.

Andy Rouse was next up but lost both his frames to Steve Bloomfield as the Cons levelled the match.

Stuart Carrington then faced Jamie Barrett who, with breaks of 78 and 32, made it 4-2 to the visitors before Karl Krajnyak (52) rounded off a good night for the Cons with a single against Ashley Wright to give his team the victory.

Leaders John Roe Toyota were at Blossom Way B where Phil Robinson and Albert Potterton shook them with singles against Jamie Green and Jamie Richardson.

All finished well for the Motors, however, as John Parker (62, 42 and 36) and Lee Blanchard (70) won the last four frames to give them a 6-2 victory.

LES Engineering entertained Westlands B and ran out 7-1 winners when Paul Clark, Paul Smith and Nige Emmerson all won 2-0 and Jonno Webster shared with Mick Thornton. Clark was a little unlucky in his first frame when, on 89, he just got out of position with a possible 132 on.

Flor Pro played West End A and won the match 5-3 when Nige Lamming won both his frames and John Ashford-Smith, Paul Bristow and Alan Robertson won singles.

Don Noble Bookmakers defied the odds when beating MJ Decorators 8-0 at the Clee Home Guard Club. Craig Taylor, Ian Sadler, Jon Steel and Mark Stevens were just too good for the visitors.

Good 2-0 wins from Kev Ratcliffe and Paul Simpson and singles from Ian Hogarth and Mike Emerson against Luke Madison and John Vickers gave Clee Bowls X a 6-2 at Simon Devaney Builders B.

Hainton A went down 7-1 at home against Windows Warehouse when Kev Ashby, John Leyland and Ivan Harvey (55 and 41) all won 2-0 and Bob Reeves shared with slam-saver Paul Arnold.

A 2-0 from Ian Crosby was cancelled out by a 2-0 from Craig Sidney as G. S. N. Westlands came back to draw 4-4 at Clee Home Guard B.

Firemen beat Ocean Sea Foods (UK) 5-3 when Craig Kuzemczak and Paul West both won 2-0 and Steve Topham shared with Jack Stinson. Dean Reynolds won the other two frames for Ocean.

Healing Mens and The Wellow both lost this week in Section A which gives hope to some of the teams around them of gaining a promotion place. The Wellow went down 5-3 at Cromwell C when Terry Burns opened the scoring with a 2-0 before Denis Rodgers, Chris Tuck and Ted Foster added singles.

Healing Mens lost by the same score at home against Ray Edmonds H when a single from Dave McCann was complimented with 2-0's from Liam Oswin and Shaun Wilkin.

Clee Cons B are one of the teams that could benefit from these results as they won 5-3 against Clee Bowls D. Brian Blyth led the way with a 2-0 and Martin Dowling, Mark Goss and Lee Pawson followed up with a single apiece.

West End B lost 5-3 at home against leaders Beertrix Trotters when Steve Donner and Danny Reynolds both won two and Andy Leworthy won a single against Andrew Warner. The Westenders 2-0 winner was Martyn Shaw.

Chris Taylor won both his frames for Hainton B at Cue World Dreamers but Danny Harrison did the same for the home team in a 4-4 draw.

2-0 wins from Bill Altoft and Keith Pulford and a single from Leon Milner gave Blossom Way A a 5-3 victory at Clee Bowls A.

Mark Wilkinson put Cambridge H in the diving seat at Laceby Manor but Phil Watts won both his frames to ensure a 4-4 draw for the Golfers.

The biggest winners in Section B were Nats A whose 7-1 victory against South Bank puts them within a point of second placed Clee Bowls B. Bob Woodhouse, Mick Sleeth and John Ilbrey were their 2-0 winners with Mark Ilbrey rounding off the scoring with a single against Alan Wortley.

The Bowlers found the going tough against Club-mates Clee Bowls Police when Shaun Cook, Mark Stainton and Roger Lockwood all won a frame for the Coppers. In the end, it was a 2-0 from Reg McGregor that gave them a narrow 5-3 victory.

Leaders Laceby RBL A won 6-2 at Stamford Homes B when Andy Barry, Matty Clayton and Daz Stansfield all won two in reply to a 2-0 from Chris Brown.

Cue World Destroyers' slim hopes of promotion took a knock when they were beaten 6-2 by Phoenix A. Keith Board, Chris Yull and Stu Wilkinson were the 2-0 winners for the Hospital Club.

Westlands A leapt out of the relegation zone with a fabulous 8-0 slam against bottom team Ray Edmonds Jubilee. Although some of the frames were close, it was Alec Cowie, Nigel Mumby, Byron Hatfield and John Ford who won them all.

Standard A recovered from 3-1 down at home against Stamford Snipers to win 5-3 when Pete Sandiford and Mick Silver won the last four frames. Earlier, Keith Southwell won both his frames for the Snipers and Dan Hargreaves shared with Darren Hare.

After the opening four frames finished even, Rob Welford and Pete Mitchell won the last four frames to give Steve Austwick Garden Services a 6-2 at Ray Edmonds K.

Clark Self Drive steered themselves to a 5-3 win at Clee Bowls C when Phil Neild and Mike Clark both won 2-0 and Mark Rimmer shared with Rick Bass. The home teams other two frames came from Ken Payne.

Grimsby Police appear to have lost the plot just recently in Section C and this week they went down 5-3 at Birds Eye A. They were on the back foot right from the off when Brain West with a 2-0 and Dave Bunn with a single against Ian Dannatt put the home team 3-1 up. Things got worse when Gerry Howes increased the lead to 5-1 before Gaz Dannatt won the last two frames for the leaders.

Cromwell Comets lost the first two frames against Grimsby Police A when Mark Tartellin won 2-0 but the Comets came back flying with 2-0's from Ian Taylor, Jase Lawton and Simon Bensley giving them a 6-2 victory.

Millfields won all the frames on offer at bottom of the table Hasbeens when Mike Caborn, Ade Scrimshaw, Tony Pearce and Garry Avison were just too strong for their opponents.

Cabbies could yet be the dark horses in this section if they play the way they did against Ray Edmonds J when Ian and Steve Singleton, Geoff Downing and Geoff Brown all won a frame in a 4-4 draw.

Bargate B won 5-3 at their new home Westlands when 2-0's from Steve Neul and newcomer Marc Gillin, and a single from Lee Neul gave them the verdict against Healing Legion.

Road Runners beat a three-man T. R. Carpets 6-2 when Matty Hepton won both his frames and Simon Timpson and Trev Webster won singles.

Bargate A celebrated a derby game at their new home venue against Cambridge X with a 7-1 victory when Pete Gibbs, Pete Tacey and Mick Harris (31) all won 2-0 and Bill Adams won a single. John Paul Teanby saved the whitewash for the X men.

The match of the day in Section D came at third placed Novartis when they played host to Ray Edmonds N who are in second spot. David Taylor and Richard Caunt shared the first four frames with Jase Sanders and Lee Singleton before Matt Jones put the home team two to the good. Terry Haigh won the last two frames for the visitors to give them a 4-4 draw.

Leaders Willow Casa were 4-2 down at home against South Bank B after Danny Chisnall and Matt Paterson won a frame each and Terry Ironmonger won 2-0 for the visitors. Steve Cowdroy came to the rescue however when he won the last two frames for Casa to give them a share of the spoils.
