Get stuck in to our super new soccer star collection

Monday, March 22, 2010, 06:30

YOUNG football fans will be able to pick Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo for their team this summer – thanks to a fantastic Grimsby Telegraph offer.

The newspaper is tomorrow giving away a free giant wallchart and stickers featuring some of the world's best players for budding young Jose Mourinhos to assemble their ultimate Dream Final 2010* line-up.

Readers can experience the sweet agony of having to decide between Steven Gerrard or Frank Lampard in midfield – or just have them both.

There are more than 40 world-class players to collect and a packet of two super-size stickers – featuring Ronaldo and Fernando Torres – will come free with the Telegraph tomorrow.

Then, on March 30, readers will be able to buy a second packet of three stickers for just £1.99 and get the wall-chart absolutely free.

After this they can keep purchasing packets of stickers with their paper each Tuesday and create their own dream team.

The wallchart features a football pitch ready for fans to stick their favourite players onto.

There is space for two teams, a referee, and plenty of substitutes and because the stickers can be repeatedly peeled off and stuck on, would-be managers can keep changing their line-up until they decide their ultimate Dream Final teams.

Youngsters from the sportgrimsby.co.uk Intermediate League – already excitedly anticipating the start of this summer's World Cup – said they could not wait to start collecting the stickers.

Domonic Hoskins, 15, a midfielder with Cleethorpes Rangers, said: "I've collected quite a few cards and stickers before but I like the idea of having them all on the pitch on my wall.

"I support Grimsby Town but if I could have any player on my team it would be Steven Gerrard, he's just so skilful."

Liam Cooper, 12, of Discoveries Minteq, who play in the Under 14B division, said he had already tasted success with his club.

He said: "We made it to the Under-12 County Cup last season and won. We beat a lot of teams to get there. I have played football since I was four."

He said he would choose Wayne Rooney for his dream team.

Caistor Crusaders Under-15s coach Martin Burns said collecting the stickers helped bond the youngsters.

He said: "When you get older you talk to people about it and say, 'Hey, do you remember collecting those stickers, and people always do. It's part of growing up. And the World Cup brings the whole country together. It's a really exciting time."

The wallchart contains 47 positions. There are players from all over the world to collect, from Xavi to Carlos Tevez and Ashley Cole to Didier Drogba.

After the first free packet of stickers, readers will be able to buy a further £1.99 packet each week – with a voucher from their Tuesday Telegraph – from participating retailers.

They can collect all of the stickers over the course of the 16-week promotion.

Don't forget, the excitement all kicks-off – only in the Grimsby Telegraph – tomorrow.

*This collection is unauthorised and not approved by any football governing bodies, sporting goods providers or sporting events.

If you get your paper home delivered by a newsagent, you can collect your FREE Ronaldo and Torres stickers from them before Saturday.
