Barrett century topples Matric

Wednesday, November 25, 2009, 06:30

JAMIE Barrett hit a stunning 112 clearance for The Icing Cabin as they claimed an impressive 5-1 victory against long-time leaders Matric in section A of the RCS Landscapes Intermediate Snooker League.

Cabin players Terry Burns and Tony Aisthorpe easily dispatched Craig Waddingham and Dave Powell 2-0 on one table, while, on the other, Steve Donner and Daz Ford took a frame for Matric.

But Kevin Ashby's 60 extended the lead to 3-1.

Barrett then struck with a classy century clearance and Icing Cabin went on to complete the 5-1 win.

Struggling Clee Cons A faced a tough visit to Cue World to face Simon Devaney Builders. Stuart Carrington (50) and Simon Devaney restricted their opponents to 12 scored points in their two frames before the Builders' pairing of Luke Maddison and Shaun Willett only allowed their opponents 14 points when making the score 4-0.

Things got only marginally better for Cons when Ashley Wright (40, 43, 38) and Matt Devaney struck and the Builders completed the 6-0 slam against a team that, even at this early stage, look to be in serious danger of the drop.

Ian Crosby (44) and Steve Fisher put Locate Supplies 2-0 up against RCS Landscapes A before Nige Emmerson and Wayne Webber made it 3-0.

The next frame went to the black and Webber hit a storming long pot – but unfortunately it went in-off, gifting RCS the frame.

Mark Franks and Darryl Pidd continued the good work for Locate by taking the last two frames to complete a slightly flattering 5-1 win.

Mike Emerson and Nige Cordy won the only 2-0 of the night as Peter Hogarth & Sons maintained their good season with a solid 4-2 win at TR Carpets.

Paul Bristow's 46 helped Ray Edmonds B level the score 1-1 with Hainton B before two more frames were evenly traded.

With the scores level, John Ashford-Smith and Tony Miller took the final two frames to secure a 4-2 Edmonds win.

The highlights of Bryants Carpets' 3-3 draw with Stamford were breaks of 58 and 46 from Paul Clark and a useful 44 from Stamford star Gaz Horsfall.

In Section B, Nige Mumby and John Ford put Westlands D into a 2-0 lead at struggling Grimsby Police B.

It got worse for the hosts when Ken Hayes and Alec Cowie were far too strong for their opponents and made it 4-0.

The next two frames were closer but still went the visitors' way, and then Byron Hatfield and G Clark completed the slam.

After four frames between Clee Cons C and Webbonet Web Design the score was locked at 2-2. Mick Springhall and Paul Lidgard took the next for Cons before promotion rivals Webbonet took the last courtesy of Mick Forster and Dave Webster.

Hainton kept their promotion bid going when the pairings of Daz Evans and Craig Smith, and Rob Broughton and Dave Telfer, put them 4-0 up against Carr Lane Social B.

Pete McIntyre and Barry Loveday won the final two frames for the Railwaymen as they deservedly avoided a big defeat.

Cambridge Graduates were holding leaders Carr Lane Social A at 2-0 but then slumped to defeat as Kevin Munson and Joe Goodfellow completed a 4-2 win.

West End B had Paul Taylor and Paul King to thank as they won 4-2 at Cambridge F.

Andy Barry, Neil Morley, Chris Pashby and Paul Brett Jr put Express Appliances 4-0 up at Stamford B, before Stu White and Nick Masters pulled back two points for the hosts.
