Builders are rock solid thanks to the Wright stuff

ANOTHER century was added to the list this week when Ashley Wright knocked in a superb 136 total clearance to record the highest break of the season so far in The Roy Ling Mutual Grimsby Snooker Singles league.

Playing for Simon Devaney Builders A at Clee Cons A in the Premier Section, he lost his first frame to Gary Skipworth despite making a 47 break.

There was no holding him in the second, though, as he dominated proceedings when clearing the table in one visit.

Team-mates Stuart Carrington and Craig Rowbotham also shared their frames with Jamie Barrett and Mike Dowling respectively and the difference between the two sides was a 2-0 from Craig Waddingham which gave the Builders a 5-3 victory.

John Roe Toyota move three points clear at the top of the table following an 8-0 slam against Blossom Way B.

Although some of the frames were close, it was Paul Metcalf, Jamie Green, Lee Blanchard and John Parker who won them all.

A 2-0 from Tony Aisthorpe put Westlands B in the driving seat in their home game against LES Engineering but Nige Emmerson brought things level when he won 2-0 for the visitors.

Earlier, Mick Thornton had shared with Paul Clark before Tim Gillin drew with Jonno Webster as the match finished 4-4.

West End A also drew 4-4 against Flor Pro when Alan Phillips, Cliff Goldsack, John Parrott and Steve Green all won a frame against their more illustrious opponents.

An opening 2-0 from Mark Stevens plus singles from Ian Sadler, Craig Taylor and Jon Steel gave Don Noble Bookmakers a 5-3 victory at MJ Decorators.

GSN Westlands hit Clee Home Guard B for six when Paul Jackson and John Morton both won 2-0 and Craig Sidney and Dan Mumby won singles against Wayne Webber and Ian Crosby.

Hainton A came away from Windows Warehouse with a 4-4 draw after Paul Codd beat Stu Swinburn 2-0 and Tony Storr and Ray Hammond shared with Kev Ashby and Bob Reeves.

A 2-0 from Luke Maddison was cancelled out by a similar effort from Mike Emerson as Clee Bowls X drew 4-4 with Simon Devaney Builders B.

Single set wins from Jack Stinson, Richard Smith and Ryan Milson together with a 2-0 from Dean Reynolds gave Ocean Sea Foods (UK) a 5-3 victory against Firemen.

The top clash in Section A saw The Wellow play host to Cromwell C and the visitors got off to a great start when Terry Burns and Chris Tuck won the first four frames.

The home team restored some pride, however, as James Gledhill and Martin Farrell won a single each against Phil Clifford and Dennis Rodgers as the match finished 6-2 in Cromwell's favour.

Leaders Beertrix Trotters thrashed West End B when Daz Barraclough, Scott Ayres, Danny Reynolds and Steve Donner won all eight frames.

Ray Edmonds H drew 4-4 against a three-man Healing Mens when Graham Young and Liam Oswin shared with Ray Smith and Gaz Wright. Terry Lloyd won the other two frames for the Mens.

Hainton B beat Cue World Dreamers 6-2 when Chris Taylor, Dave Page and Neil Russell all won 2-0 in reply to a 2-0 from Danny Harrison.

A 2-0 from Gordon Dawson and singles from Roy Ling, Jeff Dyball and Tony Eglin gave Clee Bowls A a 5-3 verdict at Blossom Way A. Keith Pulford, John Hill and Anthony Hepton won the frames for the home team.

TLC Services won 5-3 at Carr Lane D when Neil Sutton and Kev Malkinson both won two and Shane Robinson shared with Kevin Munson. Mark Leggett won the other two frames for the home team.

Bob Barnes won the first two frames for Clee Bowls D against Clee Cons B but that was their lot as Martin Dowling, Brian Bridge and Brian Blyth won the rest in a 6-2 victory.

Cambridge H also won 6-2 when Andy Hill and Karl Leverton both won 2-0 and Mark Wilkinson and Ross Leverton shared with Laceby Manor's Phil Watts and Rick Oaks.

Clee Bowls B were 'away' to club-mates Clee Bowls Police in Section B but as derby games usually turn out, no team could gain advantage and all the players won and lost a frame in a 4-4 draw.

Cue World Destroyers were at Phoenix A where Keith Board, Chris Yull and Mike Newham all won a frame for the home team against Mike Gibney, Ryan Knox and Craig Roberts.

In the end, it was a 2-0 from Karl Knox that gave the visitors a narrow 5-3 victory.

Nats A won 6-2 at South Bank when Bob Woodhouse, Mark Ilbrey and John Ilbrey all won 2-0 in response to a 2-0 from Mick Reed.

Elsewhere, 2-0 wins from John Stewart and Keith Southwell, together with singles from Keith Tomlinson and Dan Hargreaves, gave Stamford Snipers a 6-2 against Standard A.

Clark Self Drive were taken for a ride when 2-0's from Ken Payne and Harry Crampin plus a single from Eric Buck gave Clee Bowls C a 5-3 victory.

An opening four-frame salvo from Mike Crooks and Alan McIver and a single from Marc Phillips gave Ray Edmonds K the same result at Steve Austwick Garden Services.

Westlands A won 5-3 at Ray Edmonds Jubilee when Alec Cowie won both his frames and Nigel Mumby, John Ford and Byron Hatfield scored singles.

Grimsby Police were made to fight in Section C as a three-man Birds Eye were level with them before having to concede the last two frames.

Playing at the Police Station, Jim Wood shared with Brian West before a 2-0 from Gerry Howes put the visitors in front.

Billy Flynn made the scores level for the Coppers and, with the frames conceded, they won the match 5-3.

Cromwell Comets were 4-0 up in their match at home against Grimsby Police A after Jase Lawton and Ian Taylor both won 2-0.

Mark Tartellin pulled two back for the visitors before Paul Smith gave the Comets a 5-3 victory with a single against Sandy Young.

Millfields A made up some ground as they beat Hasbeens 8-0 when Garry Avison, Mike Caborn, Ade Scrimshaw and Tony Pearce won all the frames on offer.

A last-board 2-0 from Danny Wainwright cancelled out an opening 2-0 from Steve Singleton as Ray Edmonds J drew 4-4 with Cabbies.

Singles from Andy Kenningale, Shane Couldstone and Matty Hepton plus a 2-0 from Trev Webster gave Road Runners a 5-3 victory at TR Carpets.

A 2-0 from Pete Gibb and a single from Pete Tacey against Jason Gunn put Bargate A 3-1 in front in their home game against Cambridge X.

The visitors hit back, however, to win 5-3 when John Paul Teanby and Tom Jackson won the last four frames.

Standard Under 40's came back to draw 4-4 with Grimsby Fireplace Centre when a last-board 2-0 from Keith Burkett equalled an earlier 2-0 from Scott Grice.

It was first versus second in Section D when Novartis visited Ray Edmonds N and after six frames had gone, there was nothing to choose between the two teams as all the players had won and lost a frame.

It was left to Jase Sanders to give the Edmonds team a 5-3 victory after he won the only 2-0.

Third-placed Willow Casa closed the gap with a 6-2 victory at South Bank B when Andy Williamson and Mick Cowdroy both won 2-0 and Rick Kirk and John Williamson shared with Matt Paterson and Dan Chisnall.

Barry Loveday won both his frames for Standard B but Matt McRae did the same for Ramsdens Home Interiors as the teams drew 4-4.

Meanwhile, 2-0 wins from Pete Keeble and Clive Brummitt ,and a single from Jason Acquorff, against Jenny Cocking gave Cromwell Car Care a 5-3 home victory against Jenz.

Dan Scott won the other two frames for the visitors.

Rock Bottoms failed to show at Cuedos who claimed all the points.
