Carpets pile on misery for Cons

Wednesday, December 02, 2009, 06:30

DEFENDING champions Bryants Carpets completed a stunning 6-0 slam over rock bottom Clee Cons A in Section A of the RCS Landscapes Intermediate Snooker League.

Paul Clark and Jonno Webster gave Bryants – the visitors – a 2-0 lead on table one, while Paul Smith and Jamie Green were similarly efficient in doing the same on the other table to double the advantage.

Daz Potter and Jamie Richardson then continued the good work by closing out the 6-0 slam.

Peter Hogarth & Sons were enjoying a long unbeaten run, but they faced an in-form Simon Devaney Builders team who are challenging their Cue World rivals at the top of the table.

Ashley Wright and Matt Devaney put the Builders into a 2-0 lead, which was doubled when Luke Maddison and Shaun Willett made short work of their opponents.

Simon Devaney and Stuart Carrington then made it 5-0 before a good black-ball pot from Paul Simpson saved the whitewash in the final frame.

Cue World played host to Locate Supplies and after four frames the match was locked at 2-2. Mark Franks, with a useful 60 break, and Darryl Pidd won the final two frames for Locate as they secured a very good victory away at their title rivals.

Cliff Goldsack and Dave Page put Grimsby Cons 1-0 up at home to TR Carpets before Alan Burns and Frank Hadfield levelled.

The next two frames were the Jon Steel show as his breaks of 52, 27 and 32 put Carpets 3-1 up.

The next frame should have gone to Cons but Rick Gilliatt somehow managed to pinch the frame by a point and then took the last for a very good 5-1 win.

Tony Miller and John Ashford-Smith helped Ray Edmonds B into a 3-1 lead at RCS Landscapes A.

Scott Long and Tim Gillin responded well for RCS, as they rescued a draw.

The only team to win at home in Section A was Hainton B, who pulled off a shock win against Icing Cabin. Mark Steer and Dan Webster were the stars as their 2-0 proved vital.

Section B leaders Carr Lane Social A came from behind to claim a 4-2 victory against promotion rivals RCS Landscapes B.

After RCS went 2-0 up, Carr Lane hit back to level before Kevin Munson and Joe Goodfellow proved too strong in the last two frames and secured the 4-2 win.

Kev Ferguson and Pete Wood won both their frames for Grimsby Police B at West End B, but unfortunately that was their lot as Paul Taylor, Alan Porritt, Andrew Warner and Martin Shaw took the remaining frames for a 4-2 West End win.

John Mulholland, Barry Loveday, Graham James and Pete McIntyre all won 2-0 as Carr Lane Social B hammered inconsistent Cambridge F 5-1.

An Andy Barry and Neil Morley 2-0 for Express Appliances was cancelled out by Paul Lidgard and Mick Springhall of Clee Cons C in a close clash that ended 3-3.

Cambridge Graduates' good start to the season seems like a distant memory now as they were humbled 5-1 by Hainton A.

Tony Lamberton, Yan de Gruchy, Shaun Bartlett and Dave Telfer made it 4-0, before star players Dave Colley and Daz Evans fought out a 1-1 draw.

Mark Neul and Robin Wilkinson put Clee Bowls N 3-1 up at Westlands D before Byron Hatfield and G Clark made it 3-3.

Each pair won and lost a frame as Crazy Potters drew with Stamford B.

In a hard fought match Craig Sidney and Googie Withers proved the difference as Westlands C inflicted a surprise 4-2 defeat on Webbonet Web Site Design.
