Saturday, March 13, 2010, 06:30

WITH the winner and runner-up places in the Icing Cabin Super League decided, Jamie Barrett edged out Jamie Green 4-3 at Clee Cons in the battle for third spot.

As expected it was a close game and Green opened the scoring by taking the first frame on the black, Barrett levelled, getting a 48 break in the next, only for his opponent to go in front again helped by a 40.

The home player went in front for the first time winning the next two, getting an 81 in frame five, but it was the visiting Jamie who took the next with an 87.

So it was all square going into the final frame, which the host won convincingly for a 4-3 victory.

It's a strange game this – Kevin Ashby gets a 107 break in a league match but struggles in the Super League, going down again this time at the Louth Town and Country Club to Gary Skipworth by 4-1.

At Cue World, Craig Waddingham beat Ashley Wright 4-3, and Paul Metcalf, having nothing to gain from playing, conceded his match 4-0 to Stuart Carrington.

In a couple of games from last week, Green beat Metcalf 4-2 after Paul had taking the opener with a 68 break. Jamie pulled level with a 52 then, in the next frame, went in front for the first time. Metcalf took the fourth with a 64, but Green took the next two for the match.

Barrett went three frames up at Clee Cons before Ashby got on the board, getting breaks of 32 and 30 in frame three.

Ashby's 41 helped him in the fourth but the young man from the Cons took the final with a 40 aiding him over the line.

With four matches to go its still tight at the top of the B League. Leading the pack we have John Parker and Alan Edmonds who played each other this week. John took the first two, Alan took the third, but with Parker getting the next two he won the match 4-1, taking over at the top on frame difference.

Just two points behind them Paul Clark entertained Lee Plant – the latter getting himself a 4-0 slam.

Another two points behind in third place, Paul 'Elvis' Smith also got a slam against Alan Robertson, getting an 84 break to put Icing on the cake in the final frame.

Two near bottom players Jon Ashford-Smith and Luke Maddison played each other at Ray Edmonds Snooker Centre. The home player, Jon, also getting himself a 4-0 slam, with breaks of 43 and 36 in the first, a 60 in frame three and a 38 in the last.

Mid-table player Jonno Webster went down 4-2 to Mick Ponsonby, Mick taking the opening two frames and frames four and six. Both Jonno and Lee are still in with a slim chance of being in the money
