Super Stu stays cool to pocket Icing win

TALENTED cueman Stuart Carrington has fought off competition from some of the area's hottest potters to win the Icing Cabin Super League with two weeks to spare.

Carrington made sure of the title at Louth Town and Country Club when he went to play Gary Skipworth, taking the first two frames, getting a break of 60 in the first and an 83 in the second.

Skipworth fought back with the third, but Carrington took the fourth with a 75 break, giving him a two frame lead again. Another comeback for the Louth player saw him win the next, closing the gap, but in a closely fought final frame Carrington won the match 4-2.

His closest contender Ashley Wright, had a harder fight when he entertained Jamie Green at Cue World. Green took a close opener, then the second with a 73 break, but Wright hit back in the third getting a 66 break to close the gap to one frame. Green took the next with a 64, but that was as good as it got for him as Wright took the next three in a row to win the match 4-3, getting breaks of 43 in frame five and a 72 in the sixth, and a black ball game in the final frame.

Another game at Cue World saw Craig Waddingham beat Kevin Ashby 4-0.

Alan Edmonds moved top of the B League thanks to a 4-2 win against Luke Maddison. He went three frames up, getting a 76 in the second, before Maddison fought back taking the next two. But with Edmonds wanting just one frame for victory, he got it with the next in a close black ball game.

John Parker went two frames up against Mick Ponsonby in their match at Ray Edmonds Snooker Centre, getting a 57 break in the second, but a quick turn around by Ponsonby saw him take the next four for a 4-2 win.

Alan Robertson went into a two frame lead against Paul Clark, getting a 34 in the opener, but then the wheels fell off as Clark took the next four on the trot for a 4-2 win.

In a match that went the distance Jonno Webster won 4-3 against Paul Smith. It was a match that swung both ways, Webster getting frames one, three, five and seven – Smith two, four and six.

Lee Plant got the opening two frames when he played host to Jon Ashford-Smith, who replied taking the third with a 55 break. This fired Plant up, taking the next two for a 4-1 win.
